Zeitz MOCCA Engagement Shoot | Cape Town
Makeup & Hair by the talented Clarita Smit
Why this location for the engagement shoot?
We had decided that we wanted something a bit different for our engagement shoot location. We are getting married on a winery in Stellenbosch and wanted our location for the engagement shoot to differ from that. We loved the idea of a city engagement shoot (as it offered a good contrast to the greenery of the winery) and started to look at different locations in the city that would offer a great backdrop for the shoot. During this time, the Zeitz Mocaa Museum opened in the Silo district in the V&A Waterfront. I instantly became fascinated with the incredible architecture and the beautiful installations of the artists. When I showed Wiaan the venue, he was sold.
We also took some photos at Si Cantina, a Latin restaurant just outside the museum in the Silo district.
How they met
I was celebrating the end of my final matric exam. As soon as we entered the club, I noticed a gorgeous blonde guy in a white shirt and green cardigan. As it turns out, some of my friends, who were with us that evening, knew him. This gave me a great opportunity to approach him and strike up a conversation. Ironically, we soon realized that we had attended the same primary school. We exchanged numbers at the end of the night, and soon made plans to see each other again.
How they got Engaged
On the 20th of April 2017, we celebrated our 100 month anniversary. I love numbers and dates, and a 100 month anniversary was quite a milestone in my eyes. We decided that we would celebrate the anniversary over the coming long weekend. Wiaan took the initiative to organise the whole day. A few years back, we spent a weekend in Franschoek to celebrate his birthday. His suggestion was to recreate the weekend and the first stop was a visit to Babylonstoren.
Whilst walking around in the garden, we reminisced about that weekend and our visit to Babylonstoren. Wiaan suggested that we walk to the swings at Babylonstoren to recreate some of the photos we had taken with our previous visit. As I stood on the swing, ready to have my photo recreated, Wiaan started to talk and instantly I knew that this wasnt a “normal speech”. As he dropped down on one knee, I started crying and jumped off the swing to embrace him. In the meanwhile, Wiaan had arranged with friends to record the whole engagement on video. Afterwards we enjoyed some bubbly and ended the day off with treatments at the Babylonstoren spa.
